由于风雪不断， Araceli Segarra 决定放弃继续攀登 干城章嘉(Kangchenjunga, 8598m)。她表示，以前很难让自己作出一个放弃登顶的决定，不过现在已体会到，这并不是失败而是一种胜利，往后仍有更多的攀爬的机会！
想不到 在首登50周年纪念的日子里，只有两叁队伍，合共不到10人向攀登这座世界第3高峰，幸好总算有2人在极艰难的情况下攀上了顶峰，其中英国的Alan Hinkes 更藉以完成全部第14座8000米高峰的攀登！ Alan Hinkes 前此曾两度攀登干城章嘉 失败，2000年那次更失足冰隙摔断了手臂，所以，今年 Araceli Segarra 的表现也算不错的了。

One moment you are thinking about the summit and the next you are considering your chances of recovering your gear from a high camp. It would have been suicide to try to reach camp 2 with all the snow that had accumulated during these past days. Just getting to camp 1 tool Galosh 6 hours, something that would normally takes us 2 and a half. The traverse after camp 1 had snow that covered us to the thighs and avalanche risk was really bad so we decided to turn around at this point. Down in the plateau we couldn't even see the markers we had left to mark the way through the glacier and they were a meter high. When I raised my head to look at the summit of Kanchen for the last time it was covered by clouds of snow being picked up by the wind. Between today and tomorrow we would have to try for the summit but with these conditions we do not have a chance. It used to be harder for me to give up a summit but now I understand that it is not a defeat but a victory. You leave the possibility open for many more tries and climbs. In a couple of weeks I will be in Morocco rock climbing and probably planning another trip to the Himalayas . 来年再战，只要安全就是强！！！
